Glycogen Storage Disease
Glycogen Storage Diseases or GSD is a collection of disorders of inborn errors of carbohydrate metabolism. In hepatic GSD (HGSD), there is abnormal breakdown of glycogen which is stored in the liver after we eat food. This results in low blood sugar levels which can be very dangerous if left untreated. Cornstarch therapy, such as the use of Glycosade, can be used to help manage blood sugar levels for those with HGSD.
